AITC Meghalaya prez backs George Lyngdoh from Shillong Parliamentary seat

AITC Meghalaya president Charles Pyngrope is backing former Umroi legislator and Party’s Meghalaya Unit Vice President George B Lyngdoh to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from the Shillong Parliamentary seat.

The opposition party has decided to contest from both Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections next year.

“For Shillong region, it is my personal opinion but it will depend on the entire party’s hierarchy, I feel George Lyngdoh will be a very good candidate. From Garo Hills, I leave it to the wisdom of the parliamentary party leader Dr Mukul Sangma to take the final call,” Pyngrope said.

He also informed that the decision with regard to Tura Parliamentary seat he left to Dr. Mukul Sangma.

Pyngrope said he is yet to discuss the matter with the party high command.

“In fact I had spoken to the general secretary in-charge Manas Ranjan Bhunia this morning asking him for a meeting and perhaps either he will come or I will go to Kolkata and finalise the modalities on how we go about it,” he said.

He said that the party will also have to agree on certain issues before giving a go ahead as it already has candidates for the upcoming elections.

Reacting to the BJP leader Himalaya Shangpliang deciding to join NPP, Pyngrope said, “He is free to join any political party as there is no constitutional barrier in changing parties.”
