AL Hek Stresses on Resolving Meghalaya-Assam Border Dispute and Cattle Smuggling Issue

SHILLONG, NOV 21: BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Thursday said it is the dream of the party to see that the long pending boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam is resolved once and for all.

Speaking to media persons, Hek said there is need for both state governments of Meghalaya and Assam to continue the border talks for resolving the remaining six areas of difference.

He said, “We have to keep reminding them and telling them (on the need to speed up the border talks). Our people are willing to resolve the issue. So we will tell Assam to talk immediately to resolve the issue.”

Hek added, “This is because it is the dream of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and also the dream of our state to resolve the issue at earliest possible.”

On the issue of cattle smuggling, Hek who is also minister in-charge animal husbandry and veterinary said that police and the border security force (BSF) are doing their job to stop the illegal activity.

He said following the violent protest in Bangladesh, no case of cattle smuggling has come.

“From the day one when the Bangladesh problem erupted, I don’t see any cases that have come to my knowledge. Because of this problem (there are) no buyers, no sellers also at present according to the information I got,” the minister stated.
