Ahead of Independence Day celebration in the state, Sangma said, all necessary steps are being taken by the police, there is no question of slacking in that.

“All necessary steps are being taken and have always been taken. There is no question of slacking in that,” Sangma said.

Be it Tura violence or the Laitumkhrah incident the state witnessed frequent law and order disruption.

Speaking to reporters after chairing the state cabinet meeting, Sangma said, “Law and order is always an issue and it’s not just now or in the future, it’s been in the past..not just in Meghalaya, every state and every country faces law and order situation. We will not allow it to be compromised but yes we faced challenges.”

“Last year we faced a specific challenge because of specific incidents that took place. we obviously have to be very vigilant in whatever we do and we will continue to be vigilant and I am sure that the situation is very much stable there are independent incidents that are happening in the parts which are not reflective of overall law and order situation in the state, these kind of independent incidents keep happening in different parts and something that obviously that we don’t want,” the Chief Minister added.

He further said that the state police have sufficient force to maintain law and order.

The Chief Minister also assured citizens that  this coming independence day we will celebrate with great pride and honour.

“ We will do whatever it takes to ensure that the law and order in the state is maintained,” Sangma said.
