The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Tuesday questioned the delay of the different inquiry committees to submit their respective reports into the alleged irregularities in the various government departments.
“The government has time and again constituted these inquiries whenever there are allegations but sad to say…it take so long for the reports to come out which is a cause of concern because the people have the right to know what is going on,” UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh told reporters here.
He cited that the delay was seen in the inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL), rice scam and the killing of the former HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.
Agreeing with the AITC leader Mukul Sangma who alleged that the delaying tactic was to ensure people forget about these allegations, Mawthoh said, “What Dr Mukul Sangma said also he is right in one way as if there is a delay means there will be no reports…”
He said due to such delay, people are disgruntled. “The different organizations which have been demanding for these reports of the different inquiry committees are also disappointed and disgruntled,” Mawthoh said while urging the state government to facilitate the early submission of these inquiry reports so that the truth will come out in the open.
