Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting today in Delhi with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to review the security situation along the border areas in light of the current developments in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed the concerns of the people in the Northeast. Shah assured the Meghalaya delegation that the central government is fully committed to maintaining the security of the borders with Bangladesh.
In a video statement, Chief Minister Sangma emphasized the need for reinforced security along the border. “We urged the Government of India through the Union Home Minister to consider deploying additional manpower to strengthen security in the border areas. The Union Home Minister assured us that he would examine the situation and take necessary actions if required,” Sangma said.
During the review meeting, Sangma and Tynsong briefed Amit Shah on the ongoing efforts by the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Army, highlighting the strict monitoring currently being conducted by these forces. They also noted that the Meghalaya Police is on high alert to ensure safety in the region.
“We have implemented a night curfew along the international border to further bolster security,” Sangma informed. He added, “We reiterated to the Union Home Minister that it is crucial not to allow any individuals to cross the border at this sensitive time, and detailed discussions were held on this issue.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured the Meghalaya delegation that the Government of India is committed to preventing any unauthorized crossings. “All necessary measures are being taken to ensure that the border is securely guarded and no movement takes place across the border,” Shah stated.
