In a major breakthrough, the Meghalaya Police team on Friday recovered a huge cache of ammunition from Patalgre village in the Durama range of East Garo Hills.
Superintendent of Police East Garo Hills Bruno Sangma said that based on source information a raid was conducted to trace the hidden weapons which are suspected to belong to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).
As Police had been making continuous efforts to retrieve any weapons left behind by militants, a special team of SF-10 commandos was deputed led by a senior police officer for a search operation in Patalgre village, the SP said.
Around 1.30 am, the police recovered 5 (five) nos. of 7.65 mm automatic pistols.
Police suspect that it belongs to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA)
The weapons were brought back to Williamnagar Police Station for further verification. A case has also been registered in connection with the matter, police informed.
