Ampareen Assures Border Resolution by 2028

Cabinet Minister and Meghalaya  government spokesperson Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday reaffirmed the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government’s commitment to resolving the remaining six areas of difference in the state’s border dispute before 2028. Speaking to reporters after accompanying her husband, sitting MDC of Laitumkhrah-Malki, Fantin Joseph Lakadong, during the filing of his nomination, Lyngdoh assured that the government is committed to addressing critical issues impacting the state.

“We assure that the border issue will be resolved before 2028,” Lyngdoh stated.

She further emphasized, “We will also ensure that there is no land alienation and no violation of the land transfer act.” Lyngdoh urged the people of the Khasi and Jaintia Hills not to be misled by opposition allegations, which she dismissed as baseless. “We are chosen by God to protect our land and our people. We are here to serve and ensure the development of the indigenous people and the land,” she said.

Responding to criticism from the opposition, Lyngdoh remarked, “It is the job of the opposition parties to make all kinds of allegations, but that will not deter us from moving forward and continuing to work and serve the people and the state. God will guide us.” Stressing the importance of unity, she said, “The land does not belong to only one party; it belongs to all of us.”

Lyngdoh expressed confidence in the support of the MDA’s coalition partners in both the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC). “There are some who felt offended when we said that without the support of the state government, it would be difficult for any party to form the new EC. But the NPP will get the support of its partners in the KHADC and JHADC,” she asserted.

Praising her husband’s commitment, Lyngdoh said, “He (Fantin) will continue to work hard. He is not only my husband but also a leader. As a couple, we will work hard.” She also highlighted the NPP’s seriousness in the electoral process, noting, “The NPP candidate is the first to file his nomination because this reflects the fact that the party is taking this job very seriously.”

Concluding her remarks, Lyngdoh underscored the MDA government’s accomplishments and approach. “The NPP has decided to refrain from mudslinging and will highlight all the good works done by the party. The MDA has contributed a lot,” she stated.
