Health Minister Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday assured to ensure that the local traditional healers are benefited by the presence of the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH) being placed in the heart of Shillong.
While stressing on the need of NEIAH to put all efforts to adopt further research on locally available practices which are common among the tribes of Garos, khasis and the Jaintias, the Health Minister said, the Government will fight for the traditional healers also gets a fair opportunity to benefit from this institution.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said, “The institute (North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy) should put in all efforts to adopt further research on locally available practices which are common among the tribes- the Garos, the Khasis and the Jaintias. “
She said, the Government must ensure that the healers also get equal coverage in this huge Government of India plan.
“ I am going to be promoting this and I am going to fight to ensure that our local traditional practices are also benefitted by this big institution being placed in the heart of Shillong,” the Health Minister said.
“We will fight that our traditional healers also gets a fair opportunity to benefit from this institution,” she added.
Further, the Minister also raised concern about the affordable treatment.
“Affordable treatment is another very big concern in an institution like North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy. I just brought it to the attention of the honourable minister (Sarbanada Sonowal),” Lyngdoh said.
“You may bring us the traditional practice like AYUSH practice here, we must make sure that the people can effort it, because obviously the very chronic ailments will be very likely seek this kind of a window, and there is big promise that Ayush will now be a part of National mainstream healthcare. It will now be part of the system,” the Minister added.
