As the autumn session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly set to begin on Thursday, the opposition Congress is expected to make it a stormy one. Several key issues are likely to be taken up in this session.

Earlier, congress launched the ‘Save Meghalaya campaign’ against the NPP-led MDA Government in the state.

This gives a clear indication that the issues of corruption, illegalities, alleged illegal transportation and mining of coals, the current financial situation in the state, the alleged corruption in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), and the issue of Covid 19 management including COVID 19 expenditure as claimed by the Government are expected to storm the five days session.

Reacting on opposition Congress attempt to hammer the Government, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “It is good if opposition hammers the Government, we are prepared for that.”

Asking the opposition legislators to go for constructive debate inside the Assembly, Tynsong said, “I don’t want our honorable members from the Opposition to talk only to the press or to talk only to the media… Let them talk it inside the house because the proper forum, the best forum is in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and we can debate, we can discuss but we should do that constructively. “

Talking about the session he said, “We do have quite a several bills, amendments, we will place before the house.” EOM
