Assembly Privilege Committee summons two PHE officials

The Assembly Privilege Committee on Tuesday summoned two Sub Divisional Officers from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department and asked them to tender their apology for not responding to the Independent Legislator from Baghmara Samuel Sangma when latter tried to get some information on the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme in his constituency.

Under Rule 172 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the assembly, the Privilege committee put them under admonition and asked the two officers to tender an apology in Writing.

Legislator Saleng A. Sangma, who is also the Chairman of the committee said, “There was a complaint given by Legislator Samuel Sangma from Baghmara against two officers, he has to go so many times regarding JJM to discuss about situation, but it seems that they didn’t responds so.”

Stating that a MLA is a Public representative, the chairman said, “It was kind of big because he represents thousands of people,  moreover, the officers have to atleast enlighten him about the ongoing situation , the ongoing project. “

About the action taken he said,”We have called the officers , they turned up and then they are going to tender the apology to the honourable MLA and then moreover they have apologised  before us and now they are going to tender apology to him (Samuel Sangma).”

He, however, said both the officials assured to look into the matter seriously and  respond to any MLAs seeking information in future.
