BJP MDC from Tura Bernard N Marak on Tuesday asked the education minister Rakkam A Sangma to take up with the Centre for the immediate release of the scholarships of the students.
In a letter to Sangma, Marak said the delay to release scholarships have gravely affected thousands of students in the state. Due to this, many students were unable to clear their tuition fees and could not fill up the forms for their exams.
“This is a serious issue and I request you to take up this matter sincerely and release the scholarships to the students so that the dues of the students can be cleared,” Marak said.
According to him, the Umbrella Scholarship is a scholarship provided as a financial assistance to the students to cover up the cost of tuition fees, books and other educational expenses through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
“The students are presently left in dilemma and helpless at this time of the year, when they are in immense pressure to clear their tuition fees and other college expenses without which the institutions do not provide them their admit cards for the exams,” he said.
“I also request you to inform NEHU to consider some more time for the students to fill up their exam forms. Overlooking such a sensitive issue would deprive the students of their rights and leave them at a loss which need not happen I pray,” he also said in the letter.
