BJP president Ernest Mawrie on Thursday expressed confidence that the party candidate Seraph Eric Kharbuli will win the Sohiong seat.
Speaking to media persons, Mawrie said, “We also appeal to the people of Sohiong that if you vote for BJP there will be benefits for the people of Sohiong in terms of development.”
Mawrie said to say that UDP will have an edge in the upcoming Sohiong poll to be held on May 10, due to the sympathy wave is a wrong perception as late HDR Lyngdoh was not a sitting legislator when he passed away.
“When he (HDR Lyngdoh) expired he was a candidate. Of course we respect him as he has been a long time MLA in Sohiong and people of Sohiong know better about his contribution so from the party side we don’t have anything to say against that but I don’t think there will be a sympathy wave because he was not a sitting MLA. When he prepared for election, he was a candidate and an ex-MLA so that is different,” he added.
The UDP is fielding HDR Lyngdoh’s nephew Shynsharlang Kupar Lyngdoh as its candidate.
