In their attempt to make inroads into poll bound Meghalaya, the BJP finds itself in a quandary with the anti Christian tag associated to it.
BJP leader and legislator from Pynthorumkhrah constituency AL Hek informed that the party leaders including him and national general secretary Tarun Chaug and incharge M Chuba Ao met the Archbishop of Shillong and maintained that BJP is not against any religion or minorities as it is purely a political party.
“BJP is not against any religion or minorities, BJP purely is a political party and it’s a secular party,” the BJP leader said.
Stating that BJP is not anti-Christian, Hek said, “Recently our Prime Minister had gone to the Vatican to invite his Holiness, the Pope to come to India. If they are anti-Christian will they go personally to Vatican City to invite his Holiness? How are you saying the BJP is anti-Christian?”
Interestingly, in the poll bound Meghalaya, BJP National leaders are keeping their Hindutva strategies on the back burner. Meghalaya will go for polls on February 27.
The senior BJP leader has expressed confidence that the party will get double digits in the upcoming assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters, Hek said, “For the first time ever we are contesting in all the 60 Assembly seats and it will be a BJP-led government as we are going to get two digits (this time).”
He said that the acceptability of the BJP in Meghalaya is very high. “This is because of two reasons, one is development given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Meghalaya and second is that Modi has become a household name in the state.”
He said that the BJP has been able to make inroads in the entire state of Meghalaya.
On the allegation of political horse-trading by the BJP post poll, Hek said, “How are you saying that the BJP is going to buy the MLAs? BJP is going to buy the people with love. BJP is buying the hearts of the people. Development given by the Prime Minister will buy the love of the people of Meghalaya.”
