SHILLONG, MAR 15: Meghalaya BJP president Rikman G Momin is expecting that candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for both Tura and Shillong will be put in the third list.
With the election commission set to announce the dates for the upcoming Lok sabha election tomorrow, the State BJP is hopeful that the candidate lists will be out shortly.
According to sources, the BJP is likely to announce candidates for Tura and Shillong by Saturday evening or Sunday.
The BJP has named 267 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in the two lists that it has released and the third list is expected to be out in a day or two.
The state BJP election committee will sit on Saturday afternoon to discuss this further into this.
Talking to Media persons, Momin said so far there are as many as 11 aspirants for the two seats in Meghalaya, Shillong and the Tura seat.
Momin said, “We have already sent the names of these candidates to the central leadership.”
It may be mentioned that BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek is among the five ticket aspirants for Shillong parliamentary seat. Tura MDC Bernard N Marak, former MLAs – Winnerson D Sangma are amongst the six ticket aspirants for the Tura parliamentary seat.
Apart from Hek, Momin said the other ticket aspirants for Shillong seat include advocate Dr Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait, former state president Ernest Mawrie, BJYM president Mewaker Lyngdoh and Sumitra Laloo.
For Tura seat, the ticket aspirants include sitting Tura MDC Bernard N Marak, former MLAs – Winnerson D Sangma and KC Boro, former MDC Boston Marak, Ria Sangma and Thomas Marak.
Asked, Momin said, “We don’t know (when they will announce the candidates) but the third list is coming soon.”
Further, the state president said that the party is ready to fight the elections. According to him, the party has already started an election campaign.
He said that the CAA issue will not affect the BJP in Meghalaya.
