BJP satisfied with Govt presentation on roster system

Convener of the BJP Meghalaya on Roster System Hima Shangpliang said that the party felt satisfied with the decision to go ahead with the roster system as this is going to benefit the youths and all the job seekers in the state because this whole roster system is only for the job reservation.

Speaking to media persons, Shangpliang said that during the all party meeting convened by the state government, representatives of all political parties were presented with a presentation by the government on the roster system and everyone understood that this roster system is not going to affect any other categories not even for those students who are going for further studies in the lines of engineering and medicals as the reservation policy of 40%-40% will be implemented in letter and spirit.

Shangpliang informed that in all party meetings, a decision was taken there will be a committee headed by cabinet minister and this committee would be represented by all political parties wherein there will be sitting again to look into the nitty-gritty of this roster system.

“In the all party meeting, a presentation was given by chief minister, chief secretary and secretary personal and after going through the presentation we were satisfied that the roster system that is going to be introduce in the state is going to benefit the youths and all the job seekers because this whole roster system is only for the job reservation” said Shangpliang.

Shangpliang informed that in the all party meeting a decision was also taken that no further advertisement of vacancies would be taken up by the government until and unless the roster system has been approved except for the ongoing test, written exams and interviews.

He added that the roster system is going to benefit the youths of the state and it will also create more job avenues for the Khasi-Jaintia and Garo students and also for the unreserved categories.

He added that all these years there has not been any roster system but after the intervention of the High Court, the government is mandated and compelled to come out with a roster system.

When asked on the decision taken by VPP to walk out of the all party meeting, Shangpliang said “The last question that came from their end was on the reservation and the chief minister says that the meeting that was scheduled today was only for the roster and not for the reservation policy, therefore they were not satisfied, as they thought that in the meeting a discussion on reservation would take place, hence they said we will not be part of this meeting any further”.

Shangpliang said that it is to be left with the wisdom of the government where they think best, whether to review or not the reservation policy but as a party they are not in a position to say anything on this.

When asked what is the stand of BJP whether to implement roster system, prospective or retrospective, Shangpliang said “I should say yes it is a prospective policy, if you look at whole roaster, the roster is, it has to start from a point and where does it start, it has to start from 1972 because that is when the reservation policy has started”.

He added that to get that continuity, you cannot start somewhere in the middle, but those appointments that have been done in the years back behind right from 1972 till 2022, one cannot undo it.

“Now there is a misconception that somewhere there is a backlog that will be filling up but when today they had shown us in the roster, that when we understood that there is nothing like that, so this misconception has to be explained to the people that, what they heard is not true” said Shangpliang.
