The central scheme monitoring committee of the BJP will soon submit a report into the alleged shoddy construction of the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai Mawiong.
Speaking to reporters after conducting an inspection of the ISBT, former cabinet minister Alexander Laloo Hek said, “We will submit a report on the substandard work being undertaken while constructing the ISBT to the central government as well as the North Eastern Council, which has funded Rs 48.31 crore for the project.”
Asked if the committee will demand an inquiry into the matter, the former minister however said it is for the central government to take a call on what action should be taken on the matter.
Hek was accompanied by the members of the monitoring committee.
Hek informed that during the inspection conducted in the presence of the Deputy General Manager Salseng A Sangma, the committee had witnessed that cracks have also developed in the building besides the leakages.
“We are very concerned about the safety of the passengers coming from outside the state in view of the incident,” he said.
Hek urged the authorities concerned to ensure that people’s safety will be their top priority as if anything goes wrong, it will surely give a bad name to the state.
The BJP leader said that he has also suggested the need to set up a generator in the ISBT due to irregular power supply.
“I have also told them to set up pre-paid taxis for the convenience of the passengers and tourists so that nobody should be harrassed,” he added.
