A delegation of Meghalaya BJP on Wednesday met its National Chief JP Nadda in New Delhi and raised the corruption issues of the state at the National platform.

Backed by proof, BJP’s state unit chief Ernest Mawri along with the party leader Dipayan Chakraborty during their meeting with Nadda highlighted on the corruption in District council as well as on alleged illegal transportation of coal. The delegation also took up the issue of Inner Line Permit (ILP) with its central leader.

Talking over phone from Delhi, the state BJP Leader Dipayan Chakraborty said, “We have met our National President of BJP and we have discussed on three major points, one is the political situation of Meghalaya specially the corruption aspect, law and order situation also we have touched and we have also discussed about illegal transportation of coal. We have discussed the ILP situation also.”

Highlighting the ILP issue, the State BJP leader said, “On ILP he (Nadda) said he will discuss it with Amit Shah, home minister.”

Asked if the state BJP has given the proof to its central leadership on the allegation made, he said, “Whatever paper was required we have given all and coal issue is in front of everyone’s eye, District council matters are based on RTI reports and all was handed over to our National leaders in Delhi, not only JP Nadda whoever we are meeting we are providing them proofs of RTI copies annexure by annexure.”

The visiting BJP delegation has provided the RTI proof to all its central leadership whoever they met.

The State BJP in December 2020 passed a resolution on “zero tolerance on corruption”, saying “many people in the rural areas as well as in the urban areas were victims of bad governance in the State.”

The saffron party, which is supporting the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance Government while raising issues relating to corruption in governance, adopted the resolution at a meeting presided over by state BJP president, Ernest Mawrie.

Stating that Meghalaya BJP president has briefed National BJP chief in details, Chakraborty said, “We have touched the organisational report so he has heard and was very happy that Meghalaya also is improving and he said you all should work hard so that lotus blooms in Meghalaya.”
