Cabinet Minister and senior BJP legislator AL Hek on Thursday said he will take up the present Law and order situation in the state during the MDA meeting.
Expressing concern over the present Law and order particularly after the two rape cases both in South West Garo Hills and East Khasi Hills he said any Government at any cost have to uphold the Law.
“We have to uphold the law at any cost. All citizens are equal before the government,” the Cabinet Minister said.
“Anybody who is involved in any crime should not be spared,” Hek said.
Asked, the minister said that the party will raise the issue both in MDA and Cabinet meetings.
“Not only the chief minister or deputy chief minister, it is our responsibility. We will tell this in the MDA meeting or Cabinet meeting, we have to tell, why should we keep quiet, we have to speak for the betterment of our state,” he added.
Stating that the stray incidents happen everywhere, the Minister said anybody involved in crime shouldn’t be spared.
The recent gangrape of one girl and assault on three minors including a minor on April 16, at Chenga Benga village in South West Garo Hills (SWGH) district and the gang-rape of a 26-year-old blogger in Shillong.
Though the incident happened last year, a purported video of the crime went viral on WhatsApp, following which she filed a police complaint on April 20.
The question has been raised on the law and order issue particularly the crime against women and children in the state.
