The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislators have sought the intervention of the governor into the issue related to the appointment of the new vice-chancellor in the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Stating that preferably a local female qualified candidate could be considered for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Nehu, Hek said, “We have requested the governor to take up with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). We prefer that the Centre should appoint a qualified candidate from the state and if possible a female candidate as the new VC of NEHU.”
The demand for a local qualified professor from NEHU should be given a chance to lead the University and the ouster of NEHU’s Vice-Chancellor SK Srivastava has cropped up anew, this time by Meghalaya Confederation of Academic Welfare (MCAW). There were several protests made demanding the removal of the present VC.
