SHILLONG, MAR 7: Minister in-charge Labour Shakliar Warjri on Friday informed that the Block Labour Office, Laskein is not closed and is currently functioning from the District Labour Office, Jowai in West Jaintia Hills District.
Warjri while replying in the Assembly said that the reason for shifting the block labour office, Laskein to Jowai was due to lack of internet network.
He also assured that the office will be shifted back to Laskein very soon.
UDP legislator from Mowkaiaw Nujorki Sungoh while expressing concern over the decision wanted to know if the reason could be because the staff were too lazy to come to the rural areas.
He also suggested the need for the government to strengthen such offices so that labourers do not have to travel to district headquarters for registration.
To this, Warjri said that the department is coming up with a proposal to set up more block offices in the state.
