SHILLONG, SEP 19: The bodies of Niancy Riahtam and Erika Thabah was recovered today from Umshing river in Umjapung.
Niancy Riahtam and Erika Thabah, residents of Dong Tariang A, Mawiong Umjapung, have been missing since 10 am on the 18 of this month and they were last seen at 2 pm near ISBT Mawiong.
The bodies were first found by children who were went for swimming in Umshing River at around 12 noon this morning.
Upon finding the bodies, the children informed the village authorities and the village authorities immediately informed the Mawlai Police Station.
On receiving information, police personnel from Mawlai PS immediately rushed to the river to take the necessary action and to conduct an investigation.
The bodies were taken to NEIGRIHMS for post mortem.
Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills, Sylvester Nongtnger, said that the investigation is on-going to determine the cause of death.
