Bomb threat emails sent to Meghalaya High Court; Police taking threat seriously: SP (City)

Superintendent of Police (city) Pankaj Kumar Rasgania on Tuesday said the central agencies have taken up the case of such bomb threat emails to Meghalaya High Court. This is the second time such a threat email has been sent.

Stating that the similar threat has been issued to other high courts as well, Rasgania said police are still enquiring about it as the bomb threat mail sent to the High Court of Meghalaya turned out to be spam.

Asked that this is second time such email with a threat was sent to the high court, Rasgania said that “in the previous email we had already registered and FIR and after investigation we had got the details and the incident which happened it was a very generic and it was just not sent to Meghalaya High Court, it was sent to all the high courts. It is being taken up by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C). Appropriate action is being taken by the Central agencies as well in that regard.”

The City SP said police are taking the threat seriously, though no FIR has been registered.

However, he informed that after checking the details, it seems to be a hoax as the preliminary investigation is done in this regard and further investigation will follow.

“Today we were informed that one email was sent to the high court which says that a bomb has been placed in certain places in high court. It was tagged as Spam by Gmail so we still don’t know whether it is a genuine email or a spam. We are still enquiring into it as and when we get the details we will inform you,” he added.

Asked who was the sender of the email he said “we have the technical details but further investigation details was registered in the CID PS so I am not privy to that information.”

Meanwhile, the security has been beefed up.

Asked, If the police have lodged a suo moto FIR into the matter he said,”so far not yet we are still examining the email that was sent so after that process is done we then we’ll take it.”
Security drills were also conducted in the high court on Tuesday.
