BSF, BGB to identify vulnerable areas along India-Bangladesh border

The Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have decided to identify sensitive and vulnerable areas which require amplified attention to check smuggling and address security challenges along the India-Bangladesh border.

 

Addressing Mediaperson, Md Shazedur Rahman, BGBM, Additional Director General, Region Commander, Chattogram said the vulnerable areas along the International border will be identified time to time to check trans-border crime.

 

“We are pleased to have identified areas requiring amplified attention for our respective Force forces,” Rahman said.

 

Asked, he elaborated, “Like vulnerable areas where border crime is more, we will identify those areas from time to time and share them with our counterparts.”

 

The conference also deliberated on bringing down the border killing to zero, beside the critical border related issues and committed to combating transform crimes.

 

He further said, “We have also placed to reduce border related incidents to zero through consented effort from both sides. Our discussion emphasised zero tolerance towards the smuggling of drug firearms, explosive and human trafficking.”

 

Stating that both the BGB and BSF have agreed to bolster the existing preventive measures against such crime, he said, “We will take necessary actions to further sensitised the border population, increase vigilance in vulnerable areas, and share vulnerable information regarding Drugs, narcotics, arms dealing to achieve better outcome.”

 

Asked about the smuggling of drugs and narcotics, the BGB official said, both the forces of these two neighbouring countries, BSF and BGB do not foster any drugs, So fighting against drug menace is a common goal.

 

It may be mentioned that Inspectors General BSF – Region Commanders BGB level Border Co-ordination Conference from 1st to 4th July 2024 concluded with the signing of the Joint Record of Discussion (JRD) document at Shillong, Meghalaya. The 13 Member Indian delegation was led by Patel Piyush Purusottam Das, IPS, IG BSF, Tripura Frontier while the 13 member BGB delegation was led by Md Shazedur Rahman, BGBM, Additional Director General, Region Commander, Chattogram.
