In order to meet the supply shortage of GI pipes in Meghalaya for the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the state Cabinet has approved the proposal to allow the PHE department to procure GI pipes from other manufacturing units to meet the demand-supply gap.

After the meeting held on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the decision was taken in view of the increased demand for pipes due to the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission.

He said the supply capacity of the NE Zone Manufacturing Unit at Byrnihat, Ri Bhoi district, from where the department used to procure the GI pipes, is lesser than the demand.

“Therefore, the cabinet has approved the proposal to allow the PHE department to procure GI pipes from other manufacturing units,” Tynsong said.
