With the electioneering reaches its final leg, Campaigning for bye-elections to three Assembly constituencies gains momentum in Meghalaya.

To drum up support for Congress candidate Smt. Hasina Yasmin Mondol, Congress Legislative Party Leader Dr. Mukul Sangma held a massive campaign at Bhaitbari on Sunday. Accompanied by Rangsakona Legislator Zenith M Sangma, apart from the MDCs and other leader, Dr. Sangma addressed a massive gathering at Rajabala.

Earlier, Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma on Saturday campaigned for party’s Rajabala candidate, Abdus Saleh as he focuses overall development of the region.

Rajabala set to witness a multi-cornered contest. NPP fielded Abdus Saleh, the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) has bet for Ashahel D Shira, a sitting Member of Garo Hill Autonomous District Council, opposition Congress nominee Hashina Yasmin (37), also wife of former MLA Dr Azad Zaman, BJP candidate Kingston B Marak and Independent candidate Carla R Sangma.

The by-poll will be held at Mawryngkneng, Mawphlang and Rajabala constituencies on October 30. The votes will be counted on November 2.

The bye-elections were necessitated after the deaths of two Congress legislators – David A Nongrum from Mawryngkneng constituency and Dr Azad Zaman from Rajabala constituency – and Independent legislator SK Sunn from Mawphlang constituency.
