Centre forms 3-member committee to give recommendations on demands of 10 ADCs

SHILLONG, JULY 25: The centre on Thursday has decided to form a 3-member committee headed by Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, which is entrusted with the task to come up with recommendations within one month. This decision was taken after a delegation of the 10 Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) and Territorial Councils from the North East region met Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.

 

Further, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chief Pyniaid Sing Syiem, who is also convener of the 10 ADCs, after a meeting with Shah in New Delhi said that the Union Home Minister has assured to address the problems concerning the ten autonomous district councils (ADCs) of the North East region in regards to the amendment of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India, within a month’s time.

 

“The union home minister has assured the delegation that all issues concerning the 10 ADCs in regards to the amendment of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution will be addressed by a committee to be headed by the union home minister of state within a period of one month,” Syiem said.

 

He said that the 10 ADCs have different problems and different demands and the same was discussed today during a half hour long meeting with Shah.
