Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma calls KSU for talks on Friday

SHILLONG, JULY 18: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has invited Pressure Groups for talks on Friday.

“I am directed to inform you that the Chief Minister desires to hold a meeting with some of the members of the Union in his office chamber on July 19 at 12 pm,” East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner RM Kurbah said in a letter to the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) general secretary Donald V Thabah.

Meanwhile, the Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh said, “We will as a government try to address the various issues and concerns and I am optimistic that something tangible, substantive and fruitful will emerge from the discussion.”

Commenting on the demand for ILP in the state, the Minister said, “This is a long-standing matter that has engaged the attention of the government and you will also recall that the state assembly has in fact, adopted a resolution, to the effect that the ILP should be implemented. So I think this will figure out prominently in the discussions with the NGOs, because we have to fight in tandem.”

“ It should not be the Government of Meghalaya versus NGOs of Meghalaya, rather it should be the Government of Meghalaya and the NGOs of Meghalaya, in tandem working towards finding a lasting solution and to take the resolution adopted by the state assembly to its logical end,” he added.

The KSU had claimed that over 2500 migrant workers, who allegedly failed to produce valid documents, were detected and pushed back in the last 12 days.
