Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Monday flagged-off the first direct flight between Shillong to Dimapur. With just three passengers, the maiden flight from Shillong to Dimapur takes off from Shillong airport.
The flight, being operated by Alliance Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of Air India Limited, will operate from Guwahati to Shillong and onwards to Dimapur and back.
With these flight operations, the Alliance Air connects Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
Scindia flagged off the flight from Jharsuguda, while Meghalaya Transport Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare flagged off the flight from State Secretariat on Monday.
Airports Authority of India in a tweet said, “Union Minister of Civil Aviation Sh. @JM_Scindia, HMCA flagged-off the first direct flight between Shillong @aaishillong & Dimapur @aaidmuairport operated by M/S @allianceair. Out of 109 awarded routes, 75 RCS routes are currently operational by Alliance Air under #UDAN.”
According to a source from AAI, “The flight took off at 13:30 pm, the introduction of a new flight by Alliance Air links Guwahati- Shillong- Dimapur- Shillong-Guwahati.”
The project is under the RCS Udan Scheme of the Union government.
According to an official statement, the airline will deploy its 70 seater aircraft in these locations.
The flight will operate four days a week such as on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Flight 9I 735 will depart from Guwahati at 12:20 pm. Flight 9I 735 will depart from Shillong at 1.30 pm and arrive in Dimapur at 2:20 pm. Flight 9I 736 will depart from Dimapur at 2:50 pm and arrive in Shillong at 3:40. Flight 9I 736 will depart from Shillong at 4:05 pm and arrive in Guwahati at 5:10 pm.
At present, apart from this, the Shillong airport is connected with Kolkata, New Delhi, Imphal, Agartala and Silchar. In the coming days, more flights will be there from Shillong Airport.
