CM Conrad Sangma Assures Examination of Demands for Sohra and Dadenggre Districts

The Meghalaya government has assured that the demands for upgrading Dadenggre and Sohra into full-fledged districts will be thoroughly examined. However, a final decision or commitment on the matter cannot be made at this stage.

Talking to Mediapersons, Sangma said, “There has been demand from a lot, like Sohra has demand, Dadenggre has demanded, and all other areas are demanding. And of course, as I said, we are for administration getting closer, but there are large challenges we face. Geographical challenges are there; financial challenges are there with large financial implications. So, it’s not that we are saying yes or no to it, but these things need to be examined in detail.”

He added, “A lot of areas, people, and stakeholders have to be brought together, and many discussions have to be made. So things will be examined, but as I said, at this point in time, for me to say anything or commit will not be possible.”

The Chief Minister reiterated that any decision regarding the creation of new districts would be taken only after careful consideration of all aspects.

The demands for the creation of a Sohra district by upgrading it from a sub-division and for the upgradation of Dadenggre civil sub-division into a district have gained momentum. Both Sohra and Dadenggre,   are the oldest sub-divisions in the state.
