Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday instructed the Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority and the District Administration of West Garo Hills to conduct a thorough study of rivers, water bodies, and flood-prone areas in order to implement flood mitigation strategies. The goal is to undertake flood management initiatives aimed at preventing future loss of life and damage to property.

During a review meeting, the Chief Minister assessed the impact of recent flash floods and landslides in Dalu C&RD Block and monitored the relief operations conducted so far. In response, the District Administration has set up 68 relief camps to provide food and shelter to the displaced flood and landslide victims.

The Chief Minister has also directed the immediate repair of roads and bridges in the affected areas, ensuring the supply of essential goods to the impacted population remains uninterrupted. These measures are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to provide relief and expedite recovery for the flood-stricken region.
