With an aim to look into the overall restructuring and reformation of the entire education sector in the state, the State Education Commission was formed. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday inaugurated the office of the State Education Commission.
The Chief Minister also attended the first meeting of the Commission members to give insights into the reality of education scenario.
Also present were Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma and Chairperson of the Commission Prof SM Sungoh.
Addressing media persons, Sangma said, “I am really happy today that the first meeting of the commission was formally held. With the kind of leadership that is there in the commission, the kinds of members that are there who have got huge experience and knowledge about the education sector, I am sure we will be able to come out with positive suggestions and hopefully will be able to see as I said a transition into a much more healthier and stronger education in our state.”
The state Government hopes to see a transition into a much healthier and stronger education sector in the state.
Meanwhile, Prof Sungoh said, “Now, the government has given us three-terms of reference where we will work on it giving recommendations to the government and we also have certain roles to play with regards to salaries, with regards to the infrastructures, with regards to financial support which is to be given by the government.”
“Most importantly, we will have to discuss the various challenges that we are going to face while implementing the NEP 2020. Now, the implementation of the NEP 2020 is a very important policy where we should implement right from the school level and it should go right up to the highest level. We know that in implementing the NEP 2020, we will be facing a lot of challenges but we will try to find out solutions as much as possible to curb these challenges and to also overcome them,” she added.
Prof Sungoh said the Commission has just started discussing the roadmap. “We will be discussing what to do and we will be discussing what will be our vision and what will be our mission and also what will be the expectations of the government from the commission,” she said.
When asked, she said, “The NEP has already started especially at the university level and now we are trying to implement it at the graduate level as you have seen in the news, the implementation will also be taking place but we will have to decide you know, at the school level, I think we need to implement right from the foundation stage.”
“So preparation for the foundation stage is already in place and I think they have prepared and now it is the implementation stage from the foundation stage,” she added.
