Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is visiting Shillong on Friday to attend the Chief Ministerial level talk with his Meghalaya Counterpart Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at 5:30 pm at Pinewood where the decades-old Interstate vexed boundary dispute issue between Assam and Meghalaya will be discussed.
This is the first official chief Ministerial level talk between these two neighboring states after the new Government elected in these two states.
The proposed meeting will be attended by Chief Secretaries of both the states. Exchange of presentations and discussion will be held in detail.
However, following this meeting, an official meeting between the two states will take place in Guwahati.
Will Inter State border dispute between Assam-Meghalaya get solved before India’s 75th anniversary of Independence? is a big question as Union Home Minister Amit Shah in January urged all the states in the region to solve their boundary disputes by August 15, 2022 when the country celebrates 75 years of Independence.
Solving the 50 year old dispute in mere one year will be a herculean task for the states as Assam is having boundary disputes with other states of Northeast as well.
