Meghalaya Tourism Minister and MDA-2 Government Spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh informed  that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will conduct a comprehensive review meeting upon his return to Shillong.

Talking to Meghalaya News 24, Lyngdoh said the meeting will address the current unrest in Bangladesh and its potential impact on Meghalaya, including economic and international trade aspects.

“We are waiting for the arrival of the  chief minister because he has the intention of taking a massive review of the entire situation, how it impacts the economy and how impacts the International trade, all these will be discussed at a meeting where the CM will preside,” the Minister said.

Lyngdoh also mentioned plans to re-establish a grander and larger bust of U Tirot Sing Syiem in Bangladesh.

“Yeah certainly, it will be a much grander and much bigger bust and we will do it at the appropriate time once things normalise in that country,” he said.

“ The situation is still unfolding, the last word has not been spoken but as you are aware the country (Bangladesh) is right now in deep turmoil, we can only reach out to the new Government once things reach a point where normalcy is restored,” the Minister added.

Yesterday, a statue of U Tirot Sing Syiem, unveiled by the Meghalaya government at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Dhaka, was demolished by a mob amid the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has since urged local Bangladeshi authorities to take measures to prevent further escalation.
