The Congress party in its second list clears the names of five more candidates in its second list for the upcoming 2023 Meghalaya Legislative Assembly elections.
The list was approved by the AICC’s Central Election Committee (CEC). With this, the party has fielded candidates for all 60 seats.
The five names cleared by the AICC in the second list include Jhanika Siangshai (Khliehriat), Arbiangkam Khar Sohmat (Amlarem), Chireng Peter R Marak (Kharkutta), Dr Tweel K Marak (Resubelpara) and Carla R Sangma (Rajabala).
In view of the displeasure of the Garo Hills Youth Congress, the AICC leadership has not changed any candidates so far.
The party has also given ticket to 10 women candidates. Earlier, the Congress announced its first list of 55 candidates on Wednesday. Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee President Vincent H. Pala has thrown his hat into the election fray. He will contest from the Sutnga-Saipung constituency.
The other nine female candidates are Deborah Marak (Williamnagar), Rona Khymdei (Nongpoh), Bethleen Dkhar (West Shillong) and Venetia Pearl Mawlong (South Shillong), Dr. Banidashisha Kharkongor (Nongthymmai), Lakyntiew Sohkhlet (Sohra), Pynhunlang Nongrum (Mawkynrew), Victorealness Syiemlieh (Ranikor) and Uttora G Sangma (Ampati).
