Congress MLA David Nongrum passes away.

The sitting Congress legislator from Mawryngkneng constituency David Nongrum passed away early Tuesday morning in Shillong after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The 42-year-old Congress legislator was ​declared ​brought dead to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).

He is the son of Senior Congress Legislator Charles Pyngrope.

A resident of Lummawrie West, Laitumkhrah, Shillong, Nongrum was first elected in 2013 as an Independent MLA from Mawryngkneng.

In 2018, he retained his seat as an MLA on a Congress ticket.

The demise​​ of Nongrum has sent a shock wave across the political spectrum.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma condoled the death of David Nongrum as he wrote on his social media page:

“Extremely saddened by the sudden demise of Sh. David Nongrum, Hon’ble MLA from Meghalaya. He was a young, dynamic and vocal leader who executed an impactful tenure. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones in this hour of grief. May his soul rest in eternal peace..”
