Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Vincent H. Pala has disclosed that the party plans to announce candidates for at least 50% of the seats in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and 30% in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) before Christmas.
Speaking to the Meghalaya News 24, Pala said, “MDC elections, I think hopefully it should be in the third week of February, 2025. As on today, we are organizing every day, working very hard. We will be declaring our candidates maybe before Christmas—at least 15 to 16 candidates—and after that, we will see.”
He elaborated on the selection process, stating, “Those candidates who are single aspirants without any other aspirants, we declare them, and those candidates who have 5-6 aspirants in one constituency, maybe we will re-examine and find out who will be suitable. But before Christmas, definitely we will declare candidates for at least 50 percent in Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and maybe 30 percent in Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council.”
The MPCC chief further added, “Once the election is declared, remaining candidates’ names will be announced. Hopefully, by January, we will finalize everything.”
The elections for both councils are anticipated to take place early next year.
