SHILLONG, JUNE 5: NPP National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will be meeting BJP top brass in the National capital on Friday. Sangma, will be leaving on Thursday evening to attend the meeting of BJP led NDA partners in Delhi which will be chaired by BJP prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
Informing this, Sangma said, “We have our member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha and obviously we have reiterated that we are part of the NDA, infact I am leaving for Delhi tomorrow evening, there is a meeting that the prime Minister has called of all the NDA chief Ministers and I will be attending the meeting day after tomorrow.”
Prior to his meeting with the BJP top brass, Sangma, who is also NPP national chief and chairman of MDA, informed that he had convened a meeting with all coalition partners following the defeat in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls.
Speaking to Mediapersons, Sangma attributed the poor performance of the NPP to many factors. He said “It will be too premature for me to react to the entire process but there are many factors and we have, in fact, had a couple of rounds of meetings already to discuss.”
“I had a meeting with all our coalition partners. In fact, just now also we are having almost marathon meetings with all coalition partners especially the UDP had come to meet me today, had met BJP also and we have all discussed all the different issues and therefore we reiterated that we will complete this term. We will work together in a stable manner and we will continue to serve the people based on the mandate that they have given to us.”
He expressed confidence that the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government will complete its full five-year term.
“The people of the state have given the mandate in the assembly election and it is based on that mandate the government is formed, so I think they’ll have to do their own work a bit on this. Election in 2023 was an election for the assembly and people voted for most of the coalition partners. They have given more seats than what was given in 2018 and therefore, that is a mandate based on which this government is formed hence it is completely wrong for anybody to mention that,” he added.
Asked, the CM said, “But specifically talking about the scams, this word scam is used in a very casual manner by everybody and anything that happens, you know is converting into scam. Last time someone had mentioned a tourism scam or Rs 1300 scam, so it’s so simple to just use the word scam. But till now, none of these allegations and based on the inquiry that has been done none of these allegations have had any basis.”
“So therefore it’s easy for people to point fingers, but they have to have facts and figures. Therefore, it’s not correct to draw conclusions but yes, it’s a concern because that’s the kind of narrative that has been created and from our side as a government, we’ve always ensured that maximum transparency is there. We are transparent, whatever the case may be, we are, we have nothing to hide,” he stated.
