SHILLONG, OCT 17: Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh announced on Thursday that the long-anticipated Shillong ropeway project is set to begin construction by mid-November. The project, which has seen significant progress, is moving forward without any cost escalation, with the total budget remaining at ₹175 crore.
Lyngdoh said, “…the Shillong ropeway project has made a lot of headway and work on the ground should start by the middle of November this year.”
The minister said, “At the moment, we are at a stage of opening two bids – one is a technical bid and the other is a financial bid. I am told there are three companies, who are bidders for this project and they all qualified upto what is known as CEN standards, which is international standard for ropeway projects in Europe, which means because of our topography and contours, we are going for the highest possible standard, the European standard called the CEN.”
Lyngdoh emphasized that, given the challenging topography and contours of Shillong, the government is opting for the highest possible standards to ensure the project’s success.
