Court sends 2 person arrest in Ichamati case to seven days police custody

SHILLONG, APR 2: The District court of East Khasi Hills on Tuesday sent the two persons arrested in connection to the Ichamati case to seven days of police custody.

Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills Rituraj Ravi while confirming the report said, “In pursuant to the two murder took place under Sella PS, Police on Monday night arrested two persons from Sohra. Shanborlang Shati, 26 yrs and Mesadapbor Skhembil also 26 years were arrested by the police.”

 

The duo was forwarded to the court on Tuesday.

“Both were produced to the court today and the court has granted us seven days of police custody,” the SP said

Asked, he said, “They were arrested under section 302/ 34 IPC and further sections we will see as the investigation progresses.”

 

The Police official also informed that the investigation is ongoing and that the police have identified more suspects involved in the case.

“Investigation is going on and we are still at the very initial stage of investigation and it will go on,” Ravi said.

He added that security has been beefed up in all areas of the district, especially in Shillong and Ichamati.

 

On March 27,   (L) Esan Singh and (L) Sujit Dutta were allegedly beaten to death by miscreants at Ichamati. Both are labourers working in limestone quarries.
