As COVID 19 fatalities continue to increase, four more people succumb to the infectious virus on Tuesday, taking the death toll in the state to 68.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed 80-year-old Morning Niangti of Qualapatty death at Dr H Gordon Robert’s Hospital. He was admitted to Dr H Gordon Robert’s Hospital on October 9 and died on October 13 at 3:10 pm.
His diagnosis was COVID-19 pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome and diabetes mellitus type II.
Ginalin Kurkalang (33) of 5th Mile too died at Dr H Gordon Robert’s Hospital. The patient was admitted to the Dr. H. Gordon Robert’s Hospital on October 12, where she complained of breathlessness and subsequently died on October 13 at around 6:45 am.
“The cause of death was COVID-19 positive with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, acute renal failure with diabetes mellitus type I,” Dr War said.
On October 12, Indu Dev Sahni (40) of Jhalupara, Beat House complained of breathlessness, and she was declared brought dead to Nazareth Hospital at around 11:20 pm. She tested positive for the virus.
Dr War also informed that on the same day, Iohhun Khongkrom (18) of Pynursla, was referred to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on October 11 from Ganesh Das Hospital, where she was being treated since September 28 to October 10.
“While in Ganesh Das Hospital she had tested negative for COVID-19 done through a rapid test. In NEIGRIHMS she tested positive through CBNAAT,” the Director of Health Services said.
She expired on October 12 at around 2:05 pm and the cause of death was septic shock with severe sepsis, acute kidney injury, and COVID-19 positive.
The state on Tuesday recorded 67 new cases and 133 new recoveries.
The senior medical officer informed that the new cases include 45 from East Khasi Hills district, 10 West Garo Hills district, 5 Ri Bhoi district, 2 North Garo Hills district, 2 South Garo Hills district, 1 East Jaintia Hills district, 1 South West Garo Hills district and 1 West Jaintia Hills district.
Out of the 133 recovered COVID-19 patients, Dr War said, 95 are from East Khasi Hills, 19 West Garo Hills, 3 Ri Bhoi, 2 East Garo Hills, 2 South West Garo Hills and 1 West Jaintia Hills.
He said 5,406 COVID-19 patients have been discharged as on date.
The state has detected a total of 7,841 COVID-19 out of which 2,367 are active cases, 5,406 recovered and 68 deaths.
East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 1,649 infections, which include 35 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 1,614 civilians, followed by Ri Bhoi 327 and West Garo Hills 169.
In the other districts, 80 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 22 in South West Garo Hills, 12 in East Jaintia Hills, 37 in South Garo Hills, 22 in North Garo Hills, 25 in South West Khasi Hills, 18 in East Garo Hills, and 6 in West Khasi Hills.
“Till date, swab samples of 1,76,348 persons have been tested of which 1,68,500 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.
There are 47,663 entrants from outside the state.
