As COVID-19 fatalities continue to increase, 2 more people succumb to the infectious virus on Friday, taking the death toll in the state to 75.

Merilyn Pakyntein 72 yrs female from Qualapatty, Shillong, tested COVID-19 positive on 15th October expired today at 12:05 pm at her residence.

While another patient Wailin Syiemlieh 65yrs female from Langtor Mairang was referred from Dr. H Gordon Robert’s Hospital on 06-10-2020 to Shillong civil hospital. She was tested COVID-19 positive on 06-10-2020 and 10 days later early Friday at 2:20 am she expired. Syiemlieh has been diagnosed with Type I Respiratory Failure due to COVID-19 Pneumonia with Severe ARDS with Cancer.

The state on Friday recorded 139 new cases and 90 new recoveries, with this the active cases stand at 2,492.

The new cases include 71 from East Khasi Hills district, 12 West Garo Hills district, 21 Ri Bhoi district, 01 North Garo Hills district, 02 South Garo Hills district, 07 East Jaintia Hills district, 12 West Khasi Hills, 07 East Garo Hills, and 06 West Jaintia Hills.

The state has detected a total of 8,303 COVID-19 out of which 2,492 are active cases, 5,735 recovered, and 75 deaths.

East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 1,721 infections, followed by Ri Bhoi 329 and West Garo Hills 183.

In the other districts, 84 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 21 in South West Garo Hills, 17 in East Jaintia Hills, 40 in South Garo Hills, 26 in North Garo Hills, 20 in South West Khasi Hills, 32 in East Garo Hills, and 19 in West Khasi Hills.

To date, swab samples of 1,83,808 persons have been tested of which 1,75,505 were found negative. EOM
