Cyclone Renal triggered heavy rainfall across Meghalaya. In Garo Hills this has left a trail of destruction. Roads were damaged, power supply was disrupted, trees and electrical poles were uprooted, and landslides were reported.
In North Garo Hills, around 840 people were affected due to the cyclonic storm under Kharkutta block where 25 villages were affected and 120 houses were damaged. In Resubelpara 87 persons were affected due to the cyclonic storm 13 villages and 28 houses were also damaged.
Strong wind which led to fallen trees obstructing the road, electric wires snapped off and some houses damaged in the district.
On Monday, 125 persons were also affected in the district due to cyclonic storm. 1 school building was also damaged.
In the South West Garo Hills district, a total of 21 villages were affected, beside around 377 people were affected in the district.
The affected villages are Under Betasing C&RD Block, 5 villages have been affected, namely, Rongsang Songma, Chondonpara, Dalbotpara, Purasinga, and Betasing Khongpara. Under, Rerapara C&RD Block, 12 villages have been affected, including Balalgre, Chigitchakgre, Jaluapara, Lower Damalgre, Lower Damalgre B, Chengjora, Abiselagre, Balnanggre, Gongglanggre, and Bolganggre. Under Zikzak C&RD Block, 3 villages, namely, Chapahati-I, Chapahati-III, and Kalaipara, have suffered damages. Under Purakhasia B&RD Block, 1 village has been affected.
In Tura, the SDRF assisted the district authorities in clearance of trees affected by the cyclonic winds at Members’ Hostel Junction, Tura today morning.
A landslide was reported in Babupura. No injuries reported, only property damage. Cyclonic storm damaged several houses at Chitoktak, Tura. Whole village was affected
The SDRF was actively involved in clearing a tree which had fallen on power lines near Gandrak Dare ,Upper Chandmary ,Tura.
In another operation, the SDRF team led by Inspector SA Marak working along with the Forest Department were able to clear a tree which had fallen on top of a house at Lower Balsanang,Tura. No casualty was reported in this incident.

In Williamnagar, a team of a team of Civil Defence & Home Guards personnel led by Sub Inspector R Ch Marak assisted the Forest Department to cut off and clear a fallen big old tree at Kusimkol, where electricity line and the road got affected.
In another ongoing operation in Tura, an SDRF team led by Sub Inspector BD Sangma is engaged
in clearing a tree which had fallen on Tura Civil Hospital yesterday. Although the SDRF had responded to the incident since yesterday, however, very strong winds proving risky to the responders forced the operation to be halted. The SDRF resumed the operation early in the morning despite strong winds and the operation is still ongoing.
It may be mentioned that the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been kept on alert since the onset of the monsoon.
