Addressing the closing ceremony of the quartoceptcentennial jubilee celebrations of Cherra Presbyterian Secondary School and Sohra Presbytery, Lyngdoh said that the students, the parents and the teachers should take collective responsibility to increase educational quality.
The assembly speaker also urged the school management to lay utmost emphasis on character formation of the students and to create students’ pride of our own cultural heritage and civilization.
Cherra Presbyterian Secondary School is one of the oldest schools in the State and to be able to celebrate 175 years of its establishment.
“The list of alumni of this institution is truly enviable. I was impressed to know that former Dy speaker of Lok Sabha late GG Swell Cajee, two former CM, late BB Lyngdoh and Dr Donkupar Roy Dkhar, the first Member of Legislative Assembly from Sohra, S.P Swer and many others are alumni of the School,” Lyngdoh said in his speech.
Lyngdoh also lauded the founders and the missionaries for establishing the institute and for being able to serve the people with a purpose. He has also credited the pastors, the managing committee of the schools and presbytery for being able to alleviate the standard of the school.
Stressing on quality of education, Lyngdoh said, “School should not only produce students but quality students as the school’s name itself demands, so that the students can bring laurel to the school and the state”.
The assembly speaker also thanked the teachers community for their big role and responsibility in shaping the mind and life of the students.
Further he added that the school should continue to produce more outstanding leaders and distinguished officers in order to contribute towards the society.
Lyngdoh while emphasising on students, he quoted Vivekananda saying, “We want the education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, and by which one can stand on one’s own feet.”
“Students are the future and inheritance of our society, therefore quality is demanded so they can lead a better society in future,” said Lyngdoh in his message to the students during the day.
To alleviate the school to a higher standard, Lyngdoh agreed that the school is required to be upgraded to a higher secondary school.
Meanwhile, Titosstarwell Chyne, the CEM of KHADC also has emphasized on the upgradation of the school.
Titosstarwell further assured of funding the school from his MDC schem of Rs. 20 lakhs for the school infrastructure in order to upgrade it to a higher secondary school.
