District Election Officer, Ri-Bhoi District conducts meeting with contesting candidates

The Office of the District Election Officer, Ri-Bhoi District, Nongpoh had organized a meeting with Contesting Candidates and their agents on Monday.

The meeting was conducted in the presence of the General Observers, Shri. K. Veera Raghava Rao, IAS, and Shri. Narendra Kumar Dugga, IAS along with the District Election Officer, the Superintendent of Police, Returning Officers and the Assistant Returning Officers of the various assembly constituencies in the district.

The meeting began with the second randomization of EVMs and VVPATs and upon completion, the list of randomized EVMs/VVPATs allotted Polling Station wise including the Reserve list of EVMs/VVPATs AC wise and also a list of EVMs/VVPATs used for training was shared with all contesting candidates/election agents.

This was followed by presentations on the Model Code of Conduct, publishing of criminal antecedents of contesting candidates and the various acts against corrupt practices under the Representation of Peoples Act, 1951. A demonstration of the SUVIDHA app was also carried out along with a presentation on expenditure monitoring.

Training was also imparted on the cVIGIL app which allows citizens to report Model Code of Conduct violations during the elections. The General Observers had stressed on the effective utilization of the cVIGIL app in order to ensure a just election. Later in the day, another meeting with the Zonal Magistrates, Sector Officers and Sector Police Officers was organised at the Science Hall, Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi District.

The meeting was chaired by the General Observers Shri. K. Veera Raghava Rao, IAS, Shri. Narendra Kumar Dugga, IAS and the Police Observer, Shri. Ranjit Kumar Mishra, IPS in the presence of the District Election Officer, the Superintendent of Police, Returning Officers and the Assistant Returning Officers of the various assembly constituencies in the district.

The Observers emphasized on coordination, area domination, familiarity of their respective areas, AMF status of polling stations, requirements on poll day, hands-on training of EVM machines and also on the effective utilization of the cVIGIL app.
