DPR for Four-Laning of Barapani-Shillong Road Under Preparation: Prestone Tynsong

SHILLONG, MAR 4: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday informed that the detailed project report (DPR) for four-laning of Barapani-Shillong road is under preparation by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Council (NHIDCL).

Tynsong said in the Assembly the DPR and detailed survey have been handed over to NHIDCL by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and engagement of consultancy was finalised in November 2024.

“The consultant is on the job and I am sure the DPR will be prepared very soon,” he said while adding that the road will ensure economic development and ease the hardship of people.

Tynsong clarified that the height limit on vehicles was imposed to prevent any foreseen and unfortunate incident in the bridge.

He also highlighted the measures taken to address the price rise issue. He said, “We are about to complete one project, a VIP road which is under construction with a total length of 23 kms connecting Umroi Airport. It will be completed by the end of this year. Once this is completed heavy loaded trucks can ply through this new approach road to Shillong. Also, the road from Mawdiangdiang connects Shillong bypass though distance is more but people can use it to prevent plying from Umiam bridge.”
