Minister in-charge of Animal and Veterinary department A. L Hek on Friday informed that the department is working out the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to propose for a full-fledged Veterinary Hospital in Shillong.
Speaking to media persons, Hek said that the department has proposed for a first ever full-fledged Veterinary Hospital somewhere in Shillong at the cost of Rs. 94 crores at Upper Shillong East Khasi Hills.
“As of now we have prepared a concept mode and DPR to have a full-fledged Veterinary Hospital in Shillong and soon we will submit the proposal to the central government for consideration and for support” said Hek.
Hek said that though the state till date does not have a full-fledged Veterinary Hospital, yet the state has Veterinary dispensaries run by the directorate of Veterinary government of Meghalaya in East Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills.
He added that at present these Veterinary dispensaries function like a hospital but since they are not full-fledged Veterinary Hospitals, the department will seek financial assistance from the central government in order to be able to come up with a full-fledged Veterinary Hospital.
“With a full-fledged Veterinary Hospital, the department will also have a full dedicated hospital which the department has proposed to have at Upper Shillong and I hope that by next month the department will be able to complete the DPR on the first ever full-fledged Veterinary Hospital” he added.
On the other hand, the minister in-charge of Animal and Veterinary department informed that till date the state has around 17 Veterinary Mobile Units which are functioning under trail round and in latter stage these Mobile Units may likely function on full-fledged scale.
Hek said that till date the state has a large number of Veterinary doctors with a total of 264 and once the state has its own full-fledged Veterinary Hospital, the department will have to find out means to accommodate new doctors, veterinary assistants and many others.
