SHILLONG, MAR 12: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Wednesday demanded safety auditing of all distribution lines to prevent incidents of electrocution in the state.
Raising the issue during the question hour, Sangma sought the assurance of the government to ensure there is safety auditing of all distribution lines. This will ensure safety of land owners and farmers, as many times these are where such incidents take place.
In his reply, Power Minister AT Mondal assured to look into the matter while maintaining that safety auditing of all lines are being followed.
The minister informed that four cases of electrocution have been reported under Dadenggre Block in the past ten years.
“The total number of electrocution victims’ families who were paid compensation for the lives lost is 3 and the total amount received as compensation is Rs 30 lakh,” he said.
TMC legislator Rupa Marak also brought to the notice of the House that there was an incident of electrocution in his constituency where only after 8 long years, compensation of Rs 1 lakh was paid on Marcy 3, this year.
The minister said, “Yes, it is a fact and we are enquiring into the matter why it takes so much time and I assure it will not happen in the future.”
