Senior BJP MLA and cabinet Minister AL Hek has turned down the rumour that surfaced saying Dr Mukul Sangma led TMC MLAs likely to merge with BJP. Hek, also the BJP National executive Member of BJP said there was no commitment or promise made by Dr Sangma to join BJP but if he does it will be boost to the party.
Admitting that he recently had an informal discussion with the two senior leaders of the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on merging with the BJP, Hek said, “Neither we approach him, nor he approaches us…just in an informal discussion over a cup of tea.”
“Not an official or a serious talk…. We had this informal discussion about them joining the BJP. I had met Charles Pyngrope and Mukul Sangma and as far as my knowledge goes till now he (Dr. Mukul Sangma) has not said he is going to join BJP but he said he will see first,” the BJP National Executive member claimed while mentioning there was no commitment from Dr. Sangma.
The senior BJP legislator also maintained that in Meghalaya it’s not party based politics but candidate based politics works.
Asked about the anti Christian tag, he said, “Where is the tag? I am a Christian and I am winning from BJP. In Meghalaya election, I am not saying only about BJP, you talk about leaders in all the political parties, it’s not the party based politics in Meghalaya. It’s individual or candidate based politics. “
Asked if Dr Sangma joining BJP will solve the leadership crisis in BJP, Hek said, “Stature like Mukul Sangma if he joins the BJP, will be good for the party BJP. But changing the entire face of BJP will not the individual effort only; all the leaders should put collective responsibility to ensure that the BJP party is strengthening from time to time. “
“I will be a happy person to pursue this every day. Not only tea sessions but it will go with many other sessions also in the future to ensure good leaders join the party,” he added.
According to him, if leaders like Mukul Sangma, Charles Pyngrope and other senior leaders join, it will be a great boost for the BJP in Meghalaya.
