Putting an end to all rumours TMC Meghalaya leader and Former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has categorically denied that he will be joining BJP by resounding ‘NO’, while hinting towards floating a new Regional political Party before 2028 elections.

Talking to Meghalaya News 24, Dr. Sangma said, the circulation of narrative generated by media reports is nothing new and 2028 is a long way to go.

“If you are asking me the straight question, my reply will also be in one word NO. I am aware of the fact that the circulation of narrative generated by media reports, this is nothing new,” Dr Sangma said.

Stating that he is neither surprised nor offended by this report, the former Chief Minister said, “In as far as joining any political party is concerned as of now I would like to indicate to you so that you will have clarity that raising a political party is always a challenging task. Now in 2023, you all are aware we have fought the elections under the banner of our political party TMC and though there were lots of unforeseen challenges, difficulties but you have seen the quantum of support that ultimately gravitated towards us. Though we could not make the numbers, but people were with us. Look at the vote share and therefore there is no shortcut, building a political party is difficult. Will continue to build this political party and let’s see what we do in 2028 as the political situation unfolds over the years, that’s the time close to 2028 when we will take a call.”

Asked if he has met any BJP leaders in Delhi, the TMC parliamentary party leader said, “It is natural for any leader to meet leaders from any political party. Post 2023 election I didn’t get time to spend time to meet any leaders. If you ask me if I met any BJP leaders, then yes I met BJP leaders in 2019-2020 that’s the time when I met them. (Prior to joining TMC).”

The former Chief Minister and the Songsak legislator also hinted at forming his own political party before the 2028 Assembly polls.

Asked, he said, “I am not here to build the political party for nothing; I am not here to build the political party without a reason. The fact that I have joined politics and have become part and parcel of a political party is obviously because I want to give fruition to my intention. I want to give fruition to my mission and vision which revolves around the interest of the people, Interest of the state. Build this beautiful state for the generation next.“
