The East Khasi hills district is getting 150 numbers of additional Meghalaya police personnel for the counting day scheduled to be held on June 4.
Informing this Superintendent of East Khasi Hills Rituraj Ravi told Meghalaya News 24 that besides the existing number of state police and the 3 CAPF companies, these 150 Police Personnel will be deployed for the counting day and post declaration of results.
“In addition to the Forces in the District, three companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) that we have for the law and order duties, we have requested for an additional 150 personnel from police headquarters and which have been granted to us and they will be deployed for the counting day and post declaration of results,” Ravi said.
He further added, “ East Khasi Hills police is fully prepared to deal with any kind of eventuality and we are confident that no law and order situation will arise this time.”
Keeping in view the Pre-poll violence in the state, the security agencies are expected to have a herculean task ahead.
Amidst the apprehension that the counting day will witness a large gathering of supporter the district police is chalking out plan for strengthening the law and order situation.
“We have made preparations at the counting venues at Polo and Sohra. We are fully prepared as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines. We are fully prepared for the law and order situation and to maintain peace and security in the entire District,” the SP said.
It may be mentioned that besides two independent candidates, candidates of four political parties are also contesting the Lok Sabha polls. Although, 6 candidates are contesting from the Shillong Parliamentary seat.
